Robert DeNiro & Our 3 Year Anniversary

0

Welcome to this weeks episode of the I Hate Critics Podcast. This week we had four new movies. The Oscar nominated Danish Girl, the forgettable The Boy and The Fifth Wave and Dirty Grandpa which should have been really funny and obscene but instead it was just obscene and unfunny…but it gave us an excuse to make it a Robert DeNiro week.

Mean Streets

Our Top Five this week is favorite Robert DeNiro movies. We talk Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Deer Hunter, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, Goodfellas, Casino and many more.

Our Undisputed Classic this week is Mean Streets, the movie that started it all for Martin Scorsese and Robert DeNiro.

In 1986 My Chauffeur and The Image Maker came out.

This week we’ve got two new movies. Our first movie is the latest installment in the James Bond universe and that’s Spectre. Our resident film critic didn’t not like it, but neither did our resident Bond fan. In fact we spend most of the movie going through the history of James Bond and picking it apart and talking about what works, what worked and what’s wrong. We then move on to The Peanuts Movie which Sean and I both adored, but I couldn’t help troll it a little….just a little.

In 1985 we don’t really take on anything but That Was Then This is Now came out.

Betsy Russell Interview

On this bonus episode I chat with the great Betsy Russell. You may know her from certain movies such as Private School, Tomboy, Avenging Angel, Saw 3 – 7. She burst onto the scene at the age of 19 stealing every scene as Jordan in the film Private School opposite Matthew Modine and Pheobe Cates. She went on to star in several B movies through out the rest of the 80’s before settling down to raise her two boys. However in 2006 she completely reinvented herself as Jill Tuck in the Saw series.

Today she’s still acting all though she’s turning down more than she accepts. She has a degree in spiritual psychology and is a life coach. She does make the occasional con appearance but if you are unable to attend a con that she’s present at you can always check her out at www.imbetsyrussell.com.

The Big Lebowski 2: Inherent Vice

0

Welcome to the I Hate Critics Movie Review Podcast. This week “Taken 3” came out. At some point I mention that I’m pretty sure I could take Liam Neeson and that’s my biggest problem with the “Taken” movies. But what I’m excited to talk about is “Selma” and “Inherent Vice.” Two of the best movies of the year got wide releases this week. I also finally saw “Boyhood.”

InherentVice

The “Golden Globes” were this week, but we recorded before the show, so you’ll get our take next week.

Our Undisputed Classic is “Annie Hall.” My biggest problem with Woody Allen movies prior to seeing them is that I don’t by Woody Allen being with these beautiful women, but once you watch these movies you never question it for a second. “Annie Hall” has been remade so many times since it’s come out that it’s impossible to appreciate what it was when it first came out. But it’s a great movie and very easy to watch.

1985 – “Avenging Angel,” “Tuff Turf,”
