“Twelve Years a Slave” is 2013’s First Oscar Front Runner

0

Welcome to “I Hate Critics” The World’s Greatest Movie Podcast. “12 Years a Slave” is this years first real Oscar contender and Sean predicts that Chiwetel Ejiofor is a sure win for Best Actor. I’m always hesitant when Hollywood takes on racism and based on Sean’s recommendation I’m excited that “12 Years a Slave” seems to have knocked it out of the park.

“The Best Man Holiday” a sequel to “The Best Man” came out this weekend as well. Like it’s predecessor “The Best Man Holiday” is a very watchable, fun, enjoyable movie with really good acting and really good directing. It’s hard to say much more than that, but check this out instead of the next Katherine Heigl dud.

“The Dallas Buyer’s Club” came out and while it was good, the acting was distracting. When an actor is campaigning for an Oscar sometimes that can be distracting. Only Sean saw it, but he couldn’t stop staring at Matthew McConaughey. Maybe it was just Sean, but it took him out of the movie.

The ‘Undisputed Classic’ is “Badlands.” As a fan of messed up serial killer movies and not really digging on Terrence Malick’s abstract films I was curious how I would take “Badlands.” I love “Badlands.” It will go down as one of my favorite movies. It’s a serial killer movie told from a fairy tale perspective.

Sean sat down this week and watched “Yentl” beginning to end and he had the balls to say it was good, so there’s that.”Yentl” along with “Nate and Hayes” came out in 1983.

Our trailers this week are: “Divergent,” “Maleficent,” “Cuban Fury,” “Noah,” “Man of Steel: Honest Trailer,” “Tar.”

“Bad Grandpa” Breaks “The Counselor’s” Windshield

0

Welcome to “I Hate Critics” The World’s Greatest Movie Podcast. This week will go down as a rather forgettable week in movie history. The most memorable thing that happened was that “Bad Grandpa” barely knocked “Gravity” out of the number one box office slot for a week. Ridley Scott & Cormac McCarthy missed the boat on “The Counselor.” They didn’t make a movie as much as they filmed a series of monologues…and Cameron Diaz doing something to a car.

This episode it was me (Bob Zerull), Film Critic Sean Patrick, Josh Adams from the Film Fan Perspective.

The ‘Undisputed Classic’ is “Night of the Living Dead.” Sean made his way to a Rifftrax screening. He enjoyed himself, but the boys at Rifftrax ruined “Night of the Living Dead” for him.

In movie news George Clooney’s “Monuments Men” got bumped to 2014. Bruce Campbell confirmed “Army of Darkness 2,” Tom Hardy is going to play Elton John and there is a new actor in the role of Christian Gray (or however you spell his last name), but we don’t know who he is and we don’t really care.

Check out our trailers this week: “Captain America: The Winder Soldier,” “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,” “Wolf Creek 2,” “The Neighbors,” “Skinwalker Ranch,” “Devils Due,” and “Homefront”

I Hate Critics Ep. 14 – Roger Ebert RIP & The Evil Dead

0

Welcome to the I Hate Critics Podcast, a movie podcast. Legendary movie critic Roger Ebert passed away this week and we at I Hate Critics were fans of his. Mr. Ebert was the number one influence of Sean’s. How many people become household names? Babe Ruth, Hulk Hogan, Michael Jordan and Siskel and Ebert, those guys were that popular that everybody whether you cared about movies or not knew who they were. Roger Ebert was the best at what he did and he will be missed.

This week the boys talked about the remake of Sam Raimi’s “The Evil Dead.” For the first time they both have seen the movie that came out this week. For the most part they enjoyed it, I think Sean liked it a little more than Bob did, but both liked it. Bob also caught “Vamp U” and “John Dies at the End,” he fell asleep during “Vamp U.”

Our trailers this week are:

I Hate Critics Ep. 10 – “OZ the Great and Powerful” on a Scale of Awake or Asleep

0

Welcome to the I Hate Critics Podcast, a movie podcast, a movie podcast dedicated to the life and career of Jon Lovitz. Sam Raimi’s “Oz the Great and Powerful” came out this week and Sean loved it and Bob’s excited to see it. OZ leads the boys off topic and over to George Lucas and the “Star Wars” franchise…”Oz the Great and Powerful” appears to be a better prequel.

Bob managed to catch four movies throughout the week. He stumbles through Barry Levinson’s “The Bay.” Bob liked it, but you’d never know based on how he described the movie. After seeing “Argo” his Ben Affleck crush is no longer a guilty pleasure. Both Bob and Sean appear to be very neutral on Paul Thomas Anderson and his film “The Master” although Bob couldn’t stay awake during the film. Finally Bob caught “The Dark Knight Returns Part 2” and Bob and Sean wish they had the time to invest into comic book history.
