Welcome to The I Hate Critics Movie Review Podcast. It’s March madness so we waste the first part of the show going through our Movie Madness Brackett. As expected, “The Big Lebowski,” “Fight Club” and “The Shawshank Redemption” are tearing up the competition. Our big reason for doing this bracket was because we didn’t want all the attention to be on the team hit “Divergent.” First there was “Harry Potter” which was loved by kids and adults alike, but then “Twilight” ruined the brains of the teenagers and 30 something mothers. Life got a little better with “The Hunger Games” but “Divergent” just feels lazy.
Thankfully there’s “Muppets Most Wanted” to make up for that. What a fun movie. Sean, Josh and I all made it out and each of us enjoyed it a ton, unfortunately my daughter and Josh’s son weren’t as big of fans as we were. It’s a movie that’s going to stand the test of time though and as kids get older they’re going to appreciate how intelligent this movie is and how much fun it is. Then there is the unintelligent “God is Not Dead.” That’s all I’m going to say about it.
Our Undisputed Classic this week is “Casablance.” I had never seen “Casablanca” but after watching it I realized I’ve seen it in just about every movie to come after it. I was expecting this grand epic like “Gone With the Wind” or “The Godfather” and instead what I got was probably the first legitimate blockbuster that still holds up today.
In 1984 “Police Academy” and “Racing with the Moon.” We all were not ashamed to admit we enjoyed “Police Academy” no matter how bad Roger Ebert said it was. “Racing with the Moon” is a movie nobody’s heard of that stars Nicolas Cage and Sean Penn and is surprisingly good.
Trailers this week:
The Giver
The Amazing Spiderman 2
The Mazerunner
Filth
Earth to Echo
The Signal
