The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Thanks for listening to the I Hate Critics Bonus Horror Podcast. We didn’t know for sure if we were going to do another Halloween podcast but when a listener from New Mexico went to www.ihatecritics.net and clicked on the Amazon link to support the podcast and bought us a horror movies four pack that included the film “Sssssss.” None of us had seen this movie and the listener Jason thought we’d get a kick out of it. It took us several months, but we did finally watch it and it gave us a reason to do another bonus horror pod.

Sean and I watched “Sssssss” together and Jason was right, we got a kick out of it. In fact that night Sean and I watched “Sssssss” followed by the original “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and it made for one of my most fun nights doing the podcast, if only Josh were there. “Sssssss” is so much fun and so bad…so so perfectly bad that it really should be seen by all.

THE-DEVILS

For whatever reason Sean said we should all watch “Hellraiser.” In hindsight I think he wishes he kept his mouth shut. Josh for whatever reason watched the first four “Hellraiser” films, that parts not on the podcast.

Then I decided to lay down the gauntlet for Josh. Sean and I are on polar opposite positions on the film “The Devil’s Rejects.” I think it’s a masterpiece and Sean not only doesn’t get the point but thinks Rob Zombie should be arrested for having made it. Additionally there is the argument over Eli Roth. I don’t necessarily love his movies, but i like him and I think he’s perfectly sane. Josh knows who both Eli Roth and Rob Zombie are, but hasn’t seen each of their “best” movies. So we made Josh watch “Hostel” and “The Devil’s Rejects” in the same week (and four “Hellraiser” movies, but that’s on him).

Josh sort of sided with me while still trying to play devil’s advocate. I completely disagree with Sean but at the same time can’t answer his questions. Why is this entertaining? I don’t know, but it’s an experience, it pulls emotions out of me and I like when a movie can do that. Sure you have to take a shower when you finish watching these movies, but that’s neither here nor there.

Then there is “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” After revisiting that movie I can hands down say it’s my favorite horror film. All of the shitty horror movies that came after this movie has really ruined it’s reputation. I’d seen it before and I remember liking it, but I’m just used to all the characters being idiots and the bad guy being super human. This movie is real, it’s stylish, it’s a perfect horror movie. The most terrifying scene in all of the movies that we talked about on this podcast came from “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” when virtually nothing was happening.
