Back to the Future Turns 30, Magic Mike XXL, Terminator Genisys

0

On this episode of I Hate Critics we’ve got three new movies: Magic Mike XXL, Terminator Genisys, Me & Earl & the Dying Girl. Both Sean and I loved Magic Mike XXL, it was a lot of fun. It kind of makes you want to be a male stripper. The joy they had making this movie comes back off the screen. Shelby and Beth were having fun as well. Me & Earl & the Dying Girl is completely awesome. It’s essentially The Fault in Our Stars done properly. Terminator Genisys is fun but that pisses Josh off because it should be more serious and not fun. I’m paraphrasing because Josh isn’t here to defend himself.

Our Undisputed Classic is Donnie Darko. In sticking with our time travel theme (not our male stripper theme) we went with Donnie Darko and it’s a movie that is just amazing and if you mix the book in with it is even better.

In 1985 Back to the Future came out. The biggest movie of 1985. $200 million in 1985, that’s amazing.

Our trailers this week are:

Jobs
Jenny’s Wedding
Snowden
Secret in their Eyes
Creed

Anchorman 2 & American Hustle = Good For Movie Podcast

0

Welcome to The I Hate Critics Podcast. This week we talk about “Anchorman 2,” “American Hustle,” “Saving Mr. Banks” and for whatever reason “Walking with Dinosaurs.” “Anchorman 2” is one of the great comedies of 2013. “American Hustle” is one of the great movies of 2013. Sean ranks it very high and I (Bob) have it topping my list. Amy Adams deserves an Oscar, but the stupid Critics Choice didn’t even nominate her. Oh well. See this movie.

“Saving Mr. Banks” is a great movie, but if you are bothered by historical accuracy is a movie you should steer clear of, otherwise enjoy Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. “Walking with Dinosaurs” might be the worst movie of 2013…keep in mind Sean hasn’t seen “Canyons.”

Our Undisputed Classic was “Lawrence of Arabia.” With the passing of Peter O’Toole we thought it only be appropriate to talk about his best work and arguably one of the best acting performances of all time. Josh is very passionate about the film and Sean said there really is something to seeing it on a big screen that brings it to life. The verdict? It’s an undisputed classic.

In 1983 Joel Schumacher gave us “D.C. Cab” starring Adam Baldwin and Mr. T. Is there anything else I need to say?

Our Trailers are:

“The Polar Bear Movie”

“Welcome to Yesterday”

“22 Jump Street”

“Blended”

“Transcendence”

“The Grand Budapest Hotel”

“Expendables 3”

I Hate Critics Ep. 13 – “GI Joe” Slash Fiction

0

Welcome to the I Hate Critics Podcast, a movie podcast. It was kind of a bad week for movies. Luckily “GI Joe Retaliation” wasn’t that bad. Don’t get us wrong, it’s dumb, but it’s fun. Sean described it as candy, empty calories, but it tasted good. “The Host” on the other hand…run and hide.

The boys start talking about “Twilight” which morphs into “50 Shades of Grey” and ultimately slash fiction. If you’ve never heard of slash fiction, it’s like fan fiction only instead of writing an episode of your favorite TV show or movie, it’s writing sex scenes for your favorite characters.
