Robert DeNiro & Our 3 Year Anniversary

0

Welcome to this weeks episode of the I Hate Critics Podcast. This week we had four new movies. The Oscar nominated Danish Girl, the forgettable The Boy and The Fifth Wave and Dirty Grandpa which should have been really funny and obscene but instead it was just obscene and unfunny…but it gave us an excuse to make it a Robert DeNiro week.

Mean Streets

Our Top Five this week is favorite Robert DeNiro movies. We talk Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Deer Hunter, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, Goodfellas, Casino and many more.

Our Undisputed Classic this week is Mean Streets, the movie that started it all for Martin Scorsese and Robert DeNiro.

In 1986 My Chauffeur and The Image Maker came out.

Ex Machina Delivers for A24

Have you ever seen a movie and knew it was great but for whatever reason didn’t like it as much as you should have? That’s how I felt about “Ex Machina.” It’s far and away my favorite movie so far in 2015, but I didn’t love it. It’s complex subject matter yet simplistic story threw me off, but I’m in the minority on the “I Hate Critics” movie review podcast as Josh and Sean loved it.

exmachina

There were two other movies that came out to Sean’s dismay. “Age of Adaline” is a fine movie with such an unnecessary plot point that it takes you out of the movie. The plot point was so much more unnecessary than all the words that I’m using in my show notes…I learned that at the New Media Expo, but I didn’t fix it. The there was “Little Boy” starring the cast of “Paul Blart Mall Cop 2.”

In the news this week we lost a beloved Film Critic, we saw pictures of Jared Leto’s Joker and some of the cast walked off the set of “Ridiculous Six” because they were offended by the jokes. Mean while Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner didn’t make the news because all they did was make a joke about a woman and it’s ok to be sexist…just not racist…even for a joke.

Our Undisputed Classic is “Odd Man Out.” A film so old and out dated that it failed the sleep test. Josh and Sean appreciated it but didn’t love it.

In 1985 “Just One of the Guys” came out and marked the first time our beloved cohost Josh saw a pair of boobs. “Stick” also came out starring Burt Reynolds. It was based off of an Elmore Leonard novel but Burt Reynold’s arrogance and misogyny pretty much ruined any chance that movie had. Something else came out but it is unimportant.

American Sniper: The Saddest Billionaire

0

Welcome to the I Hate Critics Movie Review Podcast. People are still dogging on “American Sniper” and I find it annoying as does Sean and Josh. Blackhat starring Australian Chris Hemsworth is not going to be released in Australia. Johnny Depp said he’s not going to piggy back off of his fame is to be a musician.

The biggest hit of the weekend is Jennifer Lopez in “The Boy Next Door.” She is not naked in this movie, but there is some impressive hidden nudity according to Sean, but that’s all there is to appreciate. Rob Cohen is the director and the movie is basically too competent to be bad but too bad to be good, so it sucks. If it wasn’t as competent as it is it could be fun bad.

Mordecai came out and turned out it was just about Johnny Depp’s mustache. The whole movie is dedicated to his mustache, which means it’s kind of boring. It’s not snappy, the pace sucks, the chemistry is lacking. Ewen McGregor is the only one who knows what movies he’s in.

George Lucas produced kind of a weird crappy movie called “Strange Magic.” It was a mess. Go ahead and skip this one. Disney released it, but didn’t even put their name on it.

Sean use to love Johnny Depp in “From Hell,” so he’s taking another look at it to see if it holds up. He wondered what he was thinking after revisiting it.

1985 – Fandango, Falcon and The Snowman came out.
