Masters of the Universe Needs to Be Remade

0

This episode is dedicated to the loving memory of my friend Jeff Kilgard. He was a great friend who passed away earlier this morning unexpectedly. He left behind his wife Shelby and seven year old son. Jeff was the one that saved all of our back catalog. He was a listener of the show, but he was a really great friend and I will miss him.

Minions & The Godfather Part II

0

On this episode of I Hate Critics we’ve got three new movies: Minions cleaned up this weekend bringing in $120 million. It’s a movie that has been marketed well. Kids love the Minions, but it’s mostly forgettable. They’ve tricked our kids into watching garbage…good for them I guess. The Gallows is as big of a hit as any other movie this weekend. It was made for $100,000 and made $10,000,000. The acting is pretty bad as is the story but more power too them. I’m happy for their success. Self/Less is the movie where Ben Kingsley gets to become Ryan Reynolds and more or less make an action flick that is kind of boring. So it was a pretty weak weekend. Sorry about that.

Minions

Our Undisputed Classic is The Godfather Part II. Minions is a prequel about bad guys and so is The Godfather Part II so why not? The Godfather Part II is one of the best movies of all time. It’s a movie I’ve taken for granted. All three of us watched it again last week and if you haven’t seen this movie you really should. It’s brilliant,

In 1985 Silverado and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome were released.

Our trailers this week are:

Batman v Superman: The Dawn of Justice
Star Wars: The Force Awakens Featurette
Deadpool Leaked Trailer
Brooklyn

Jurassic World

Who would have thought that in a year that includes an Avengers movie and a Star Wars movie that Jurassic World would have been the biggest movie of the year….so far? Jurassic World is one of the best monster movies I’ve seen in awhile. I was alone in thinking this however. Sean liked it but has it behind Furious 7, Avengers and Mad Max this year. In my opinion only Mad Max is better and more fun. Then there’s Josh who couldn’t not watch it as a scientific drama rather than a monster movie. His loss.

We also take a look at Kyle Smith’s article on how women can’t possibly comprehend Goodfellas. Obviously we disagree with him however what offends us more than his unintentionally sexist theme is his offensive take on Goodfellas comparing it to Entourage. Fuck you Kyle Smith.

The I Hate Critics podcast has been asked to be a part of Lebowski Fest in Milwaukee Wisconsin the weekend of Aug 21 and 22nd. Please if you’re in the area we’d love to hang out and get to know some of you.

We asked the audience in honor of Jurassic Wolrd being released this week, what their favorite monster movies were. We talked about your movies as well as King Kong (all of them) and Jurassic Park.

1985 – Prizzi’s Honor, D.A.R.Y.L., and Secret Admirer were released.

Rocky, Field of Dreams & Pulp Fiction

0

Welcome to the I Hate Critics Movie Review Podcast. This week the movies from last week topped the box office, but McFarland USA, The Duff and Hot Tub Time Machine 2 came out. Josh and I watched “The Grand Budapest Hotel.” We can’t really complain about it as much as we’d like to. It’s not made for us but we’re happy that it exists. Then Josh finally saw “Foxcatcher.” He had a similar reaction Sean and I did. Therefore we recommend you go see it.

Field Of Dreams

In place of the Defend It segment, we’re each going to challenge a year we feel got it wrong and defend our reasoning.

Rocky

Josh takes on 1976 (“Rocky” vs “Network” & “All The President’s Men,” I took on 1994 “Pulp Fiction” vs “Forrest Gump” and Sean took on 1989 “Driving Ms. Daisy” vs “Dead Poet’s Society”

Pulp Fiction

1985 – Into the Night came out. That’s all, it came out
