On this episode of I Hate Critics we’ve got two new movies: Ant-Man came out this week opposite Trainwreck, Minions, Jurassic World, Inside Out. It still managed to bring in $60 million which people are saying is good bad, but really it’s pretty good. It’s not Guardians of the Galaxy, but who would really complain about a $60 million opening. The other movie to come out was the Amy Schumer/Judd Apatow vehicle Trainwreck. Ant-Man was fine, but Trainwreck is the best comedy of the year so far. If you’re a fan of Amy Schumer and or Judd Apatow then Trainwreck is a must see.
Our Undisputed Classic is Breakfast at Tiffany’s. We spend the whole segment bad mouthing women who like this film. Breakfast at Tiffany’s is a highly racist film that we were unable to get into or understand why people like.
In 1985 The Coca Cola Kid starring Eric Roberts came out and we probably spent more time on this movie than any of the other movies.
Our trailers this week are:
The Fantastic Four
Who would have thought that in a year that includes an Avengers movie and a Star Wars movie that Jurassic World would have been the biggest movie of the year….so far? Jurassic World is one of the best monster movies I’ve seen in awhile. I was alone in thinking this however. Sean liked it but has it behind Furious 7, Avengers and Mad Max this year. In my opinion only Mad Max is better and more fun. Then there’s Josh who couldn’t not watch it as a scientific drama rather than a monster movie. His loss.
We also take a look at Kyle Smith’s article on how women can’t possibly comprehend Goodfellas. Obviously we disagree with him however what offends us more than his unintentionally sexist theme is his offensive take on Goodfellas comparing it to Entourage. Fuck you Kyle Smith.
The I Hate Critics podcast has been asked to be a part of Lebowski Fest in Milwaukee Wisconsin the weekend of Aug 21 and 22nd. Please if you’re in the area we’d love to hang out and get to know some of you.
We asked the audience in honor of Jurassic Wolrd being released this week, what their favorite monster movies were. We talked about your movies as well as King Kong (all of them) and Jurassic Park.
1985 – Prizzi’s Honor, D.A.R.Y.L., and Secret Admirer were released.
Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 2
Rock the Kashbah
The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Welcome to The I Hate Critics Movie Review Podcast. In the news this week, Steven Spielberg to direct “Ready Player One.” “Fifty Shades Darker” gets a new director because author EL James was a pain in the ass. Hugh Jackman says he is done with “Wolverine” after the new movie. Idris Elba may play the next “Star Trek” villain. There’s a possible “Office” movie starring Ricky Gervais. Finally the website “Film Threat” funded by Chris Gore is doing a kick starter campaign to keep the site up and running.
The new movies this week include “Home,” “Get Hard,” and “It Follows.” Josh and I have kids and we got out of this movie, but Sean still had to go and it’s not bad. It’s not Pixar, but it’s got enough heart. Rent it for your kids when it comes out.
“Get Hard” is an awful movie with two really funny guys in it which makes it watchable, but hell I’d just watch Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell do the late night circuit. “It Follows” is the independent horror that got so much buzz that it got a wide release. It’s fine, we all appreciate it on different levels but it’s not a game changer by any means. It’s a meta movie and then some.
Our Undisputed Classic is the Paul Newman classic “Cool Hand Luke.” For the first time Sean hadn’t seen the classic but Josh and I had. Josh and I loved it Sean liked it…a little. Sean’s wrong though.
1985 – Desperately Seeking Susan, King David, The Slugger’s Wife, Police Academy 2, The Care Bear Movie
