What a great week for movies. Pixar delivered The Good Dinosaur which isn’t great by Pixar standards, but still pretty good. We has two full on master pieces released in our area in Brooklyn and Trumbo. There was one stinker in Victor Frankenstein. Finally Creed surprised us and allowed for us to go on a Rocky Marathon.
For our Undisputed Classic we take on Rocky
On our Does it Hold Up segment we take a look at Rocky II, Rocky III and Rocky Balboa
In our Defend It segment we defend Rocky V (not really)
In 1985 Rocky IV
Our trailers this week are:
Captain America: Cival War
The Big Short
Barbershop The Next Cut
The Little Prince
Knight of Cups
San Andreas was this weeks big release. It’s basically The Rock fighting an earthquake. It’s highly entertaining while being highly offensive…which makes it hard for Sean to admit he likes it. Sean generally has no problem admitting to liking or disliking something but he was so offended by “San Andreas” that he was kind of embarrassed for having fun.
Cameron Crowe is back with “Aloha.” When the studio that made this movie trashes the movie via email then those emails go public a week before the movie comes out you know you’re in for a long day. The movies not complete. There’s something brilliant somewhere there but we’re not sure if it’s still in Cameron Crowe’s head or on the cutting room floor.
Have you seen Kung Fury yet…go see it as soon as you’re done with this podcast.
We asked our audience their favorite Cameron Crowe films. Among the movies selected we had “Untitled” or “Almost Famous,” “Say Anything” and “Singles.
Our Undisputed Classic was Cameron Crowe themed and we took a look at “Jerry Maguire,” “Elizabethtown” and “Pearl Jam 20.”
1985 – Fleetch
End of the Tour
Welcome to The I Hate Critics Podcast. This week we talk about “Anchorman 2,” “American Hustle,” “Saving Mr. Banks” and for whatever reason “Walking with Dinosaurs.” “Anchorman 2” is one of the great comedies of 2013. “American Hustle” is one of the great movies of 2013. Sean ranks it very high and I (Bob) have it topping my list. Amy Adams deserves an Oscar, but the stupid Critics Choice didn’t even nominate her. Oh well. See this movie.
“Saving Mr. Banks” is a great movie, but if you are bothered by historical accuracy is a movie you should steer clear of, otherwise enjoy Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. “Walking with Dinosaurs” might be the worst movie of 2013…keep in mind Sean hasn’t seen “Canyons.”
Our Undisputed Classic was “Lawrence of Arabia.” With the passing of Peter O’Toole we thought it only be appropriate to talk about his best work and arguably one of the best acting performances of all time. Josh is very passionate about the film and Sean said there really is something to seeing it on a big screen that brings it to life. The verdict? It’s an undisputed classic.
In 1983 Joel Schumacher gave us “D.C. Cab” starring Adam Baldwin and Mr. T. Is there anything else I need to say?
Our Trailers are:
“The Polar Bear Movie”
“Welcome to Yesterday”
“22 Jump Street”
“The Grand Budapest Hotel”
