New Movies

Don’t Let Go – After a man’s family dies in what appears to be a murder, he gets a phone call from one of the dead, his niece. He’s not sure if she’s a ghost or if he’s going mad, but as it turns out, he’s not.

Midsommar Director’s Cut- A couple travels to Sweden to visit a rural hometown’s fabled mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.

Wild Rose – A troubled young Glaswegian woman dreams of becoming a Nashville country star.

The Last Black Man in San Francisco – A young man searches for home in the changing city that seems to have left him behind.

Under the SIlver Lake – Sam, a disenchanted young man, finds a mysterious woman swimming in his apartment’s pool one night. The next morning, she disappears. Sam sets off across LA to find her, and along the way he uncovers a conspiracy far more bizarre.

Climax – French dancers gather in a remote, empty school building to rehearse on a wintry night. The all-night celebration morphs into a hallucinatory nightmare when they learn their sangria is laced with LSD.

Undisputed Classic

Network – A television network cynically exploits a deranged former anchor’s ravings and revelations about the news media for its own profit.

1989

Relentless – Two Los Angeles police detectives, cynical veteran Malloy and cocky rookie Dietz, hunt for a serial killer, an ex-cop named Taylor, whom randomly chooses his victims from a phone directory.

Cage – A GI in Vietnam saves his buddy’s life, but in the process is shot in the head. The injury results in brain damage to the point where he basically has a child’s brain in a (very large) man’s body. When they get out of the army the two open up a bar together, but some local gangsters make things tough for them after they refuse to take part in brutal “cage” matches where fighters battle to the point of serious injury and/or death.

This week we’ve got two new movies. Our first movie is the latest installment in the James Bond universe and that’s Spectre. Our resident film critic didn’t not like it, but neither did our resident Bond fan. In fact we spend most of the movie going through the history of James Bond and picking it apart and talking about what works, what worked and what’s wrong. We then move on to The Peanuts Movie which Sean and I both adored, but I couldn’t help troll it a little….just a little.
