Welcome to this weeks episode of the I Hate Critics Podcast. We start this weeks show with our Oscar picks. There are also three new movies this week. Race and Risen are very safe movies which makes potentially decent movies pretty bland. Then there is The Witch which will end up among the best films of 2016 easily. A24 knocks it out of the park again.
Our Top Five this week is our favorite movies from each of the last five decades as well as the current decade we’re in. We talk about too many movies to even mention here.
Our Undisputed Classic is Suspiria
In 1986 The Hitcher and 9 1/2 Weeks
Kindergarten Cop 2
Hunt for the Wilderpeople
Who would have thought that in a year that includes an Avengers movie and a Star Wars movie that Jurassic World would have been the biggest movie of the year….so far? Jurassic World is one of the best monster movies I’ve seen in awhile. I was alone in thinking this however. Sean liked it but has it behind Furious 7, Avengers and Mad Max this year. In my opinion only Mad Max is better and more fun. Then there’s Josh who couldn’t not watch it as a scientific drama rather than a monster movie. His loss.
We also take a look at Kyle Smith’s article on how women can’t possibly comprehend Goodfellas. Obviously we disagree with him however what offends us more than his unintentionally sexist theme is his offensive take on Goodfellas comparing it to Entourage. Fuck you Kyle Smith.
The I Hate Critics podcast has been asked to be a part of Lebowski Fest in Milwaukee Wisconsin the weekend of Aug 21 and 22nd. Please if you’re in the area we’d love to hang out and get to know some of you.
We asked the audience in honor of Jurassic Wolrd being released this week, what their favorite monster movies were. We talked about your movies as well as King Kong (all of them) and Jurassic Park.
1985 – Prizzi’s Honor, D.A.R.Y.L., and Secret Admirer were released.
Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 2
Rock the Kashbah
The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Welcome to “I Hate Critics” The World’s Greatest Movie Podcast. This episode we talk “Carrie,” “Fifth Estate” and “Escape Plan.” In short, “Carrie’s” fine, “Fifth Estate” is blah and “Escape Plan” is Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger in a movie together.
This episode it was me (Bob Zerull), Film Critic Sean Patrick, Josh Adams from the Film Fan Perspective.
The ‘Undisputed Classic’ is “The Bridge On the River Kwai.” Josh had to sit through this thing. During his viewing he noticed several shots from this film that Steven Spielberg has ripped off over the years…or was Spielberg paying homage? If it were anybody else we’d say ripped off…just saying.
In this week in 1983 we got “The Right Stuff,” “All the Right Moves,” “The Dead Zone” and “The Osterman Weekend.” Thirty years later “Gravity” is still number one and a new movie based on a Stephen King novel is out in “Carrir.”
Check Josh Adams out at The Film Fan Perspective http://filmfanperspective.wordpress.com.
Last week nobody won a copy of “My Step Dad is Freakin’ Vampire” and “I Didn’t Come Here to Die”
This week we are continuing the contest until we get 10 entries. Also if you can name our game I will give you a copy of “A Cadaver Christmas.”
Get to work.
Head over to our Facebook page and like us and let us know what movies you want us to talk about.
