Rocky Marathon

0

What a great week for movies. Pixar delivered The Good Dinosaur which isn’t great by Pixar standards, but still pretty good. We has two full on master pieces released in our area in Brooklyn and Trumbo. There was one stinker in Victor Frankenstein. Finally Creed surprised us and allowed for us to go on a Rocky Marathon.

Welcome to the I Hate Critics Movie Review Podcast.

This week the terrorists won. The terrorist convinced Sony and several theater owners to pull the release of “The Interview” from our theaters this Christmas. It’s a disappointment. Then several indie theaters wanted to show “Team America: World Police” and Paramount pulled that so whatever. The Critics Choice Nominations were out. Josh and I poke fun of the award show and Sean doesn’t laugh.

“The Hobbit” is finally over so we never have to talk about that again…until they turn 30 years old. It won the weekend, but Josh and Sean disliked it. “Annie” came out and Sean thought it was a disaster. Then “Night at the Museum 3” came out and nobody noticed.

This week Sean asks us to Defend “Willow” but I asked Josh if it held up. It did for me, it did not for Josh. Then Josh went on to describe what was wrong with “Willow” and all he did was say awesome things about it.

Welcome to The I Hate Critics. The Golden Globes are over, as are the Critics Choice Awards, The Screen Actor’s Guild and the Oscars have made their nominations. We talk about it with excitement then unfortunately move onto “Devil’s Due,” “Ride Along,” “The Nut Job” and “Jake Ryan: The Shadow Recruit”

Our undisputed classic is “The Tree of Life.” Josh absolutely loves this movie, as does Sean. I’m kind of an idiot and I hate it for the exact same reason Josh and Sean love it…although they’d probably say I don’t get it.

This week in 1984 “The Buddy System” and “Scandalous” came out and then went away.

Our trailers this week are:

“Adult World”
“Anita”
“Californian Schemer”
“Mr. Peabody and Sherman”

2013 Year in Review: The Wolf of Wall Street & Grudge Match

0

Welcome to The I Hate Critics 2013 year in review. First we’re going to talk about Justin Bieber’s “Believe.” It was dumb so we moved on to the highly anticipated “Grudge Match.” Sean liked it!!!! “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” divides Sean and Josh. “The Wolf of Wall Street” pisses both Sean and Bob while Josh watched Keanu Reeve’s career flash before his eyes.

“Twelve Years a Slave” is 2013’s First Oscar Front Runner

0

Welcome to “I Hate Critics” The World’s Greatest Movie Podcast. “12 Years a Slave” is this years first real Oscar contender and Sean predicts that Chiwetel Ejiofor is a sure win for Best Actor. I’m always hesitant when Hollywood takes on racism and based on Sean’s recommendation I’m excited that “12 Years a Slave” seems to have knocked it out of the park.

“The Best Man Holiday” a sequel to “The Best Man” came out this weekend as well. Like it’s predecessor “The Best Man Holiday” is a very watchable, fun, enjoyable movie with really good acting and really good directing. It’s hard to say much more than that, but check this out instead of the next Katherine Heigl dud.

“The Dallas Buyer’s Club” came out and while it was good, the acting was distracting. When an actor is campaigning for an Oscar sometimes that can be distracting. Only Sean saw it, but he couldn’t stop staring at Matthew McConaughey. Maybe it was just Sean, but it took him out of the movie.

The ‘Undisputed Classic’ is “Badlands.” As a fan of messed up serial killer movies and not really digging on Terrence Malick’s abstract films I was curious how I would take “Badlands.” I love “Badlands.” It will go down as one of my favorite movies. It’s a serial killer movie told from a fairy tale perspective.

Sean sat down this week and watched “Yentl” beginning to end and he had the balls to say it was good, so there’s that.”Yentl” along with “Nate and Hayes” came out in 1983.

Our trailers this week are: “Divergent,” “Maleficent,” “Cuban Fury,” “Noah,” “Man of Steel: Honest Trailer,” “Tar.”
