Oscar Recap, Call Your Mom & Stay Weird

0

Welcome to the I Hate Critics Oscar recap show. It’s late, we’re all three exhausted and it shows. The Oscars are just two damn long. “Birdman” wins the night. I think the three of us differ on how good “Birdman” is, it’s my favorite of the movies nominated, I think it’s a little lower on Josh and Sean’s list. We all three agree that “Gone Girl” is the best movie of the year, but what are you going to do?

Some memorable moments in the show include JK Simmons telling us to call our moms. Patricia Arquette asking for equal women’s rights, it’s sad that in 2015 this is still an issue. Common delivered one of the most powerful speeches of the night and the writer of “The Imitation Game” deserved to win another award for his acceptance speech.

It’s weird, there’s not much to complain about. I was entertained enough, but it was just so long. I apologize if we’re not completely with it this episode…we’ll get them next time.

50 Shades of Grey

Welcome to the I Hate Critics Movie Review Podcast. This week we are joined by the two more promiscuous members of the Mommy’s Cocktail Hour Podcast Tawny and Lindsay. They went and saw “50 Shades of Grey” to at least give us a female perspective on the film and we’re guys and we’re dumb. The movie wasn’t made for us but maybe it was made for them. A movie that was made for us was “The Kingsman.”

Inspired by the buzz that is “50 Shades of Grey” we chose “The Last Tango in Paris” as our Undisputed Classic.

1985 – A lot came out but only “The Breakfast Club” matters

Captain America: The April’s Record

0

Welcome to The I Hate Critics Movie Review Podcast. Our March Movie Madness has made it to the final with “Almost Famous” squaring off against “Field of Dreams.” This week saw the film “Captain America: The Winter’s Soldier” destroyed the April box office record with over 100 million in its first weekend. Not only that but it’s probably the best “Avengers” related movie yet. It’s kind of like a “Bourne” movie.

We also talk about “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and rip on Wes Anderson fans. Sean by chance saw “Enemy” at our cheap theater and called it the best movie he saw this week…so I went and saw it and we’ll discuss again next week.

Our Undisputed Classic this week is “Eraserhead.” This isn’t really a movie but more or less several different genius images with no real story. But it clearly inspired a generation of music video directors.

In 1984 “Moscow on the Hudson” and “Up the Creek” came out. Only Sean saw those movies and for whatever reason he spent the whole segment talking about boobs.

Anchorman 2 & American Hustle = Good For Movie Podcast

0

Welcome to The I Hate Critics Podcast. This week we talk about “Anchorman 2,” “American Hustle,” “Saving Mr. Banks” and for whatever reason “Walking with Dinosaurs.” “Anchorman 2” is one of the great comedies of 2013. “American Hustle” is one of the great movies of 2013. Sean ranks it very high and I (Bob) have it topping my list. Amy Adams deserves an Oscar, but the stupid Critics Choice didn’t even nominate her. Oh well. See this movie.

“Saving Mr. Banks” is a great movie, but if you are bothered by historical accuracy is a movie you should steer clear of, otherwise enjoy Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. “Walking with Dinosaurs” might be the worst movie of 2013…keep in mind Sean hasn’t seen “Canyons.”

Our Undisputed Classic was “Lawrence of Arabia.” With the passing of Peter O’Toole we thought it only be appropriate to talk about his best work and arguably one of the best acting performances of all time. Josh is very passionate about the film and Sean said there really is something to seeing it on a big screen that brings it to life. The verdict? It’s an undisputed classic.

In 1983 Joel Schumacher gave us “D.C. Cab” starring Adam Baldwin and Mr. T. Is there anything else I need to say?

Our Trailers are:

“The Polar Bear Movie”

“Welcome to Yesterday”

“22 Jump Street”

“Blended”

“Transcendence”

“The Grand Budapest Hotel”

“Expendables 3”

Did He Just Say Steven Spielberg is a Hack?

0

Welcome to “I Hate Critics” The World’s Greatest Movie Podcast. This episode we talk “Carrie,” “Fifth Estate” and “Escape Plan.” In short, “Carrie’s” fine, “Fifth Estate” is blah and “Escape Plan” is Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger in a movie together.

This episode it was me (Bob Zerull), Film Critic Sean Patrick, Josh Adams from the Film Fan Perspective.

The ‘Undisputed Classic’ is “The Bridge On the River Kwai.” Josh had to sit through this thing. During his viewing he noticed several shots from this film that Steven Spielberg has ripped off over the years…or was Spielberg paying homage? If it were anybody else we’d say ripped off…just saying.

In this week in 1983 we got “The Right Stuff,” “All the Right Moves,” “The Dead Zone” and “The Osterman Weekend.” Thirty years later “Gravity” is still number one and a new movie based on a Stephen King novel is out in “Carrie.”
