Welcome to The I Hate Critics Movie Review Podcast. This week we managed to go long. Hey, don’t get mad, we had a lot to talk about “I Frankenstein” came out and we wanted to, we had to talk about it. Speaking of hating critics, our resident critic kept calling Aaron Eckhart’s character Aaron as opposed to Adam (which is his name in the film)…so feel free to hate on him…although I think he’ll take great pleasure in your hatred, he’s a critic after all (Sorry Sean, just having fun).
“Nebraska” also came out nation wide and we spent a good deal of time talking about this film. Both Josh and Sean loved it. We were all happy to see it get recognized with an Oscar nomination. Finally Josh brought the foreign film “The Hunt” to the table. It sounds amazing but super frustrating. That said I think I need to see it. I saw three movies this week that we touch on, Kristen Bell’s “The Lifeguard,” Lake Bell’s “In a World” and Mark Ruffalo Bell’s “Thanks for Sharing.” I liked two of them and almost liked the third.
Our undisputed classic is “Blow-Up.” All three of us caught this one. I’ve been wanting to see this since I read Aerosmith’s Autobiography “Walk This Way.” Joe Perry mentioned that this was his favorite movie at one point in that book and I had been looking for it ever since. Now that everything is streaming I was able to find it and did I fall in love or what? I think all three of us fell in love with this film and it’s safe to say they don’t make them like this anymore.
This week in 1984 “Broadway Danny Rose” came out as well as “ “Slayground” and the Steve Martin classic “The Lonely Guy.”
Our trailers this week are:
“Welcome to the Jungle”
Welcome to The I Hate Critics Podcast. This week we talk “The Hobbit,” “A Madea Christmas” and “Nebraska.” We mostly talk about “The Hobbit” though. Let me rephrase that, Josh and Sean mostly talk about “The Hobbit” while I take a nap and cough into the microphone from time to time. Also “Nebraska” is really good, but you’re probably not going to see it.
Our Undisputed Classic was “African Queen.” Humphrey Bogart won a life time achievement award for this film. If any self respected actor gave the performance Mr. Bogart gave, they’d be run out of town. We’ve all seen it. I struggle to describe this movie when Josh swoops in to save the day.
In 1983 “Silkwood” and “Gorky Park” came out. If you’re going to go back and check out some movies from 1983, these are two great movies to start with. “Silkwood” is one of Meryl Streep’s more underestimated performances. It’s a heart breaking movie. “Gorky Park” has a terrible name, but it’s good too. On a side note Bon Jovi took a band named Gorky Park under their wing in the late 80’s but that didn’t last long.
Our Trailers are:
“Edge of Tomorrow”
“The Knights of Badassdom”
“The Fantastic Fear of Everything”
